Parking outside the practice is free from 10.30-2.00 and after 4.00pm Ample Ticket Parking is available at all times across the road at 20p per hour. Our normal practice hours are : 9.00-5.30 Mon-Fri 9.30-1.00 Satrday Our Qualifications: A husband and wife partnership established in 1976, John and Ann trained for three years at Edinburgh and Durham respectively, subsequently both attended Sunderland University to gain 2.1 BSc (Hons) degrees in Podiatric Medicine. As members of the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists and to maintain our Registration with the Health Professions Council we attend many courses, lectures and undergo structured Continuing Professional Development for a minimum of 35 hours each year. Qualified to use local anasthetics since 1975 we were the first in the North and one of the first practices recognised by the Society of Chiropodists in the UK to offer this adjunct to effective pain-free therapy. Total and Partial Nail Surgery has been offered since 1976 giving us almost unmatched experience in this area. Guarenteed result or free repeat of the procedure. Verucca treatments: Blunt dissection/curettage and electro-dessication / hyfracation under local analgesia, have been available from us since 1976. Biomechanics and Casted Orthotics Our training commenced in Jan 1981 with Langer at Newcastle -under-Lyme. This was one of the First Biomechanics courses in the UK and led directly to associate membership of the fledgling Podiatry Association whose courses and conferences led to the personal Biomechanics tutelage over 3 years by Bill Orion (co-author of "Normal and Abnormal Function of the Foot") . Sports Medicine Sports injuries on athletes up to and including Olympic Gold Medal standard have been successfully managed within the practice. Computerised Biomechanics and scaned orthotic manufacture John attained a PGC in Computer Science from Northumbria University to assist in the development of the RADM, the world's first Analytical Biomechanical scanner producing a cad-cam orthotic with Mr K.Glennie of Orthotic Telemedicine/Orthomed based in Aberdeen from 1991-2000. Podiatric Surgery The Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists has a designated sylabus comprising of PART "A" which are the theoretical subjects associated with surgery and PART "B" which is the "apprentice" side of podiatric surgery. Both partners in Powell and Gilchrist have passed PART "A" with no exam resits required! Assisting in the Orthopaedic Theatre at the Freeman Hospital from January to April 1995, also assisting the American Podiatric Surgeon Joe Adante and Alistair Clarke (at Durham) provided a measure of ability and experience in this field, but not the desire to perform complex surgery. _______________________________________________ UNDER CONSTRUCTION! _________________________________________
